IIT - INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
The idea of IIT emerged since India got freedom in 1947. After India got independence, many Indian intellectuals thought that the prosperity of India lies much more on technology rather than on capital. Based on SARKAR COMMITTEE, the first Indian Institute of Technology was set up on MAY 1950 in KHARAGPUR, WEST BENGAL. Later, four more centres were established in BOMBAY (1958), MADRAS (1959), KANPUR (1960) and DELHI (1961). Now, there are presently 16 institutes of IIT in India.

ABOUT
Indian Institute Of Technology abbreviated as IIT are a team of autonomous government engineering institutes in India. IIT alumni are the most prestigious education institutes in India. It has got national importance in many professions. It is the dream of every aspiring engineering aspirant to be a part of IIT alumni.
ADMISSION
From 2013, there are major changes in IIT-JEE examination pattern. Earlier there was separate IIT-JEE examination conducted by joint entrance examination board of IIT. But now a new pattern has been introduced. The brief pattern of admission in IIT is as follows:
- Admissions test for IITs will be held in two phase - JEE main and JEE advance
- To get admission into IIT, a candidate must clear JEE main and JEE advance examination.
- JEE main is of AIEEE level while JEE advance is of IIT level.
To appear in JEE advance one has to pass through two selection criteria
• Candidate must be in top 20 percentile in their boards (includes all board examination from national to state level)
